Emergency Text Messaging System

The text message service is offered to members of the University Community on a purely voluntary basis. In order to receive these notifications, you must have a mobile device that can receive text messages and a service plan with your provider that enables you to receive messages. Any costs associated with receiving text messages from your provider will be your responsibility.  It is recommended that your cell phone be configured to alert you to incoming text messages either by tone or vibration.

If you decide to opt-in, there is no guarantee of delivery, since the demands on local cell towers are outside the University’s control. In the event of an actual emergency, thousands of text messages will be sent. Congestion at your service provider may delay or prevent the delivery of these messages.

If you need to report an emergency situation, please contact 911 or EKU Police.

Please follow these steps in order to sign up for the service:

  • From the EKU homepage, click on “EKU Direct” and then log in.
  • At the top of EKU Direct main menu page, click on “Opt-In for Emergency Text Messaging.”
  • From there, you will be directed to enter your cell-phone number, select your service provider and either opt-in or opt-out. Once done, click “Submit” and you are registered!

EKU Campus Construction Update 7/07

Construction has begun for our new 330,000-square-foot Science Building. We’re looking forward to a groundbreaking ceremony in summer 2008 for what will become our largest building. This building will be under construction through 2011.

Campus Housing Accommodation Requests

If appropriate, adapted housing is available on campus upon request. Accessible rooms are available in Todd, Dupree, Martin, and Case Residence Halls as well as Brockton apartment living. Modifications to regular rooms for visual alarms and other special needs are also available upon request. The Family Housing Office offers modified apartments particularly available for those students whose physical daily maintenance require full time attendant care. For consideration of any residential hall or apartment living accommodation, seek out the Disabilities Office and complete the Housing Request form available in the Disabilities Office, SSB 361. Contact the Disabilities Office as soon as you apply to the University so that we can discuss the appropriateness of your request and inform the Housing Office of your particular needs.

More info on dorm accessibility (.doc)

Once in your Residence Hall, please refer to your Residence Hall Living Guidelines which include the Emergency Evacuation Procedure for persons with disabilities. Within theses guidelines, you are to self-identify your disability status and preferred mode of communication to the Residential Hall Staff. This information is to be written on an index card and made available to the front desk for emergency room evacuation procedures. Kentucky State Law 164 requires universities provide campus housing and security authorities with an updated list of students with disabilities living in residence halls. In the case of an emergency evacuation, your room will be monitored for proper evacuation by either the Residential Staff, Public Safety or the Fire Department.
